At 7:45 am I was on the beast heading N to Angola. Nice to ride early when it is still cool. All the dirt roads are fairly well maintained due to the tourists and every day you come across the guys grading the road and they pull their house trailer behind grader. I stopped for brunch in Opuwo at the place I was stop at and had a lekker milkshake and chicken mayonnaise sandwich. Then a nice couple from Jbay chatted to me, and they knew my parents, only kidding. They had lived in Katima during the war when I was up here, interesting couple. Went to the Spar which was packed with month end shoppers and then departed.
Instead of taking the easy peasy road to Epupa I took a D road through the mountains and dry river beds. Temperature got to 40 degrees Celsius, on a slow bake.As I was cruising along, suddenly a bloody Orynx appeared in the road then dashed to the right the turned around and crossed in front of me, had to brake even harder, the change of direction was unbelievably fast and my reaction was unbelievably slow. Had plenty of Springbok skipping along the road and two Ostriches not knowing where they wanted to go and two Klipspringers dart around in front of me and then goats roaming the entire way.
Got to camp at 3 and the wind is howling like crazy and all the palm trees pom forms are flying off like projectiles, it's unreal, ended up moving my bike under the restaurant and pitching my tent was fun. Am right on the rivers edge at the falls.
