Swakopmund - Palmwag. 524 km. Day 5
After packing up early in the morning I noticed the cut in my tyre had gotten larger, so went and had a new tyre fitted, which put me off to a late start. Gino drove me around to find a tyre and put on a Continental TC 80 (R 2325). He also told me to take a track to Uis, which was just after Hentjies Bay which was unmarked and unfortunately I found it miraculously. Wish I never had.
The normal dirt roads here are pretty remote, this track which I wasn't even a 100% sure was the right one was really in the middle of nowhere and not a route someone would take, yet here I was riding it. It's always comforting to know where a road goes to and how long it is, I had no clue but it was beautiful until I hit the sand. I personally hit the sand as I was bucked off, he never mentioned the sand. I battled to pick up the bike in the thick sand and stifling heat and I had forgotten to bring water along, which was a concern of mine, I had peanuts and raisins but no water to survive on, once again poor planning.
I had a few more sandy patches which I fought through and after 110 km I connected to a cross road which took me to Uis. Fueled up and and had to push hard to make Palmwag before sunset, avoiding four Kudu alongside the road.
Had an Orynx steak for supper, not good.
